Daily Mail: Navy probe finds 'sweeping failures' by commanders and crew that allowed USS Bonhomme Richard to burn for DAYS on end after July 2020 arson attack 

* A report has concluded there were 'sweeping failures' by commanders, crew members and others that fueled the July 2020 fire that destroyed the Navy ship 

* The fire that destroyed the amphibious assault ship last year was allowed to burn for days on end due to a slew of individual and systemic failures, the report says 

* The sprawling investigation declared that the ship's crew that was 'inadequately prepared' to battle the blaze, which burned for five days 

* The new report, which is set to be released to the public Wednesday, identifies 36 sailors - including five admirals - as having contributed to the loss of the ship 

* The findings detailed widespread lapses in training, coordination, preparedness, communication, equipment maintenance, and overall command and control 

* One sailor, Seaman Apprentice Ryan Sawyer Mays, 20, has been charged with setting the fire, telling investigators he was dumped by another crew member 

A Navy report has concluded there were 'sweeping failures' by commanders, crew members and others that fueled the July 2020 arson fire that destroyed the USS Bonhomme Richard, labeling the massive five-day blaze in San Diego preventable and unacceptable. 

While one sailor has been charged with setting the fire, the more than 400-page report lists three dozen officers and sailors whose failings either directly led to the ship's loss or contributed to it. 

The findings detailed widespread lapses in training, coordination, communication, fire preparedness, equipment maintenance and overall command and control.
