In an interview over GMA Digital News, Lorenzana said as part of the Philippines defense cooperation with Japan, they are looking at acquiring new radar systems which will be put in various locations around the country.

“For us, I think we can tap into the technology of Japan on Defense industries. Remember, Japan was also a super power in World War 2. They are building planes, warships, and submarines. So the technology is there and they are improving it. And Japan is actually willing to help us to improve our defense capabilities,” Lorenzana said.

Lorenzana said a few years ago, the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), donated to the Philippines five Beechcraft King Air TC-90 aircraft to help boost the country’s maritime patrol capabilities.
