'The United States military, our coalition partners and the Syrian Democratic forces have liberated virtually all of the territory previously held by ISIS in Syria and Iraq,' he said. 'It should be formally announced sometime probably next week that we will have 100 percent of the caliphate.'

WNU Editor: ISIS is currently just a postage-stamp of what it once was, and what little territory it has will vanish in the weeks to come. As a organized military force it is also finished. Unfortunately, this radical Islamic ideology is going to be with us for a long time, and the terrorism that it spawns probably longer. But is this the reason that U.S. soldiers must remain in eastern Syria? In my opinion no. This is the headache for the current players in the region, and they are the ones who must deal with it.
