A photo of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s tenth and final Parola-class Multi-role Response Vessel ordered from Japan Marine United through the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP) for PCG Phase 1 was uploaded in Twitter by @zakogumo on August 14.
The said vessel will be officially known as BRP Cape Engano (MMRV-4411) in coastguard service.
Under MSCIP for PCG Phase 1, the Philippine government ordered 10 44-meter multi-role ships from Japanese shipbuilder Japan Marine United. The contract was awarded in April 2015.
MSCIP for PCG Phase 1 was funded through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) official development assistance (ODA) loan.
The first Parola-class MRRV, BRP Tubbataha (MRRV-4401) was commissioned in October 2016.
MSCIP for PCG Phase 2 – which involves 2 heavy weather, high endurance 94-meter MRRVs – is also in the pipeline.
Loan agreement to finance MSCIP for PCG Phase 2 was signed by Philippine Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez and JICA president Shinichi Kitaoka during President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to Japan in October 2016.
