In a big setback to hate India doctrine in Pakistan politics, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attack Hafiz Saeed backed Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek, have failed to score anything in general elections in Pakistan.

While the political outfit had fielded candidates on over hundred seats, but according to the unofficial results, none of the candidates contesting from it is even in the second lead, forget victory.  Even in provincial elections which are being held simultaneously, the outfit failed to score.

Only a few garners a respectable number of votes.  Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi whose name was removed from the banned list got the respectable number of votes. Ludhianvi’s name was in the Fourth Schedule which means the list of banned individuals but was allowed to contest inviting international backlash.

Geo TV reported that Ludhianvi received more than 45,000 votes but was nowhere close to the victory. Before the elections, concerns were raised in the country over the participation of hardline Islamists groups. Mili Muslim League which is often linked with Saeed’s outfit had fielded many candidates as Saeed’s outfit was denied recognition by Election Commission. Saeed himself was reportedly seen campaigning for the candidates,  but none even got close to victory.

Hafiz Talha Saeed, the son of Saeed, contested from NA-91 seat from Sargodha (about 200-km from Lahore), the hometown of the Jamaat-ud Dawa leader. Saeed’s son-in-law, Khalid Waleed, was a candidate in PP-167.

Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP), a Sunni sectarian group, fielded more than 100 candidates but none of them came close to victory, according to unofficial results so far.

Mutahida Majlis-e-Aml (MMA) was the biggest religious alliance of several leading parties was leading on only eight seats of national assembly despite the massive campaign by its leader which included influential Maulana Fazlur Rehman. PTI has scored a massive victory and its leader Imran Khan is likely to become the next prime minister of Pakistan.
