High Level Chinese Military Delegation Arrives at Sukna

In consonance with the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chinese President Xi Jinping during Wuhan summit, where both leaders reaffirmed the need to strengthen bilateral ties, a high level Chinese Army delegation led by Lt Gen Liu Xiaowu, Deputy Commander of Western Theatre Command arrived at Sukna yesterday afternoon.   This visit is seen as a major initiative to strengthen relationship between the militaries of both nations. The delegation comprising 10 senior military officials from China will interact with their military counterparts at HQ 33 Corps. The delegation before arriving at Sukna, has visited Delhi and Agra. India and China had endorsed the need to resume military ties when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Chinese President Xi Jinping for an informal summit at Wuhan in China in April this year. Towards that end, this visit by the military delegation to local military headquarters is a significant step forward towards increasing interactions at military commander’s level and implementation of various agreements to maintain peace and tranquility on the borders.

During their stay at Sukna, the visiting dignitaries will hold delegation level talks, besides interaction at various levels for better understanding of each other and exchange of ideas.  The Indian delegation will be led by Lt Gen Pradeep M Bali, GOC Trishakti Corps.  The delegation level talks will be followed by a cultural programme showcasing Indian traditional dances and a banquet in the honour of visiting delegation. The PLA delegation will depart on 05 July for their onward visit to Kolkata.

Powers to allot/allow retention of accommodation for Armed Forces Personnel with differently abled children delegated.

Ministry of Defence in its recent order has decided to decentralise the powers for priority allotment of married accommodation to the personnel having differently abled children. Allotment or retention of an accommodation, on the grounds of a differently abled child by Armed Forces personnel, for an initial period of three years has now been delegated to the Local Military Authorities at the level of GOC Sub Area. This can be extended for a further period of two years by the same authorities. The delegation of powers is equally applicable to all the three services. In case of Command Hospital (CH) the competent authority to give such priority allotment would be Commandant of the CH.

This measure is likely to mitigate the difficulties expressed by Armed Forces personnel having differently abled children as they are called upon to move to different locations at short notices.

MOD approves construction of 17 New Baffle Firing Ranges

Ministry of Defence has given a go ahead sanction for construction of 17 new baffle firing ranges in Military Stations/Cantonments/Training Establishments at an approximate cost of Rs. 238 crores.  This will add seven ranges to the Southern Command, Three to the Eastern Command, Two to the Northern Command, one each to the South Western and Central Commands. The one at Central Command is proposed for the Officers Training Academy, Gaya. These 17 will be in addition to the 60 similar firing ranges existing all over the country. The proposed baffle shooting ranges can facilitate firing from 300 to 500 meters.

Baffle firing ranges are covered shooting practice areas which prevent possible accidents due to stray bullet injuries. The possibility of such mishap has increased many folds in recent times due to growth of civilian population around the cantonments. To prevent such casualties without affecting the training requirements of the Armed Forces, MOD has approved additional baffle ranges.
