Lockheed contracts for Trident II ballistic missile production, support
Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract for Trident ballistic missiles.
The contract, from Strategic Systems Programs and announced by the Defense Department on Wednesday, enables Lockheed Martin for Trident II D5 ballistic missile production and deployed system support under a contract worth more than $40.7 million.
Under the terms of a cost-plus-incentive-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract -- a modification to a previous Pentagon award -- both the United States and United Kingdom will benefit from the contract deal.
The UGM-133A Trident II, or Trident D5, is the latest generation of submarine-launched ballistic missiles and has a travel range of more than 7,500 miles -- the actual range capability is classified.
Work on the contract will occur in multiple locations across the United States and is expected to be complete in September 2022, the Defense Department said.
The majority of the total cumulative value of the contract will be obligated to Lockheed Martin at time of award from multiple Navy fiscal accounts and funds from the United Kingdom.
More than $3.5 million will expire at the end of the current fiscal year in September.
