Burden is leaving post as head of Army PEO EIS
The Army’s program executive officer for enterprise systems, Brig. Gen. Patrick Burden, will leave his post in the new year.
Burden is leaving to take a deputy commander position with the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan as part of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan’s Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. That role was previously held by Maj. Gen. Leon Thurgood,who will become director of the Missile Defense Agency in Redstone Arsenal, an Army PEO EIS spokesperson confirmed.
Burden was previously the deputy ammunition PEO and senior commander at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. Before then, Burden was the assistant deputy for acquisition and systems management for the assistant secretary of the Army.
The Army PEO EIS confirmed that Cherie Smith, who became EIS’ acting deputy PEO Oct. 23, will take over Burden’s role as PEO on an acting basis.
Command changes will take place Jan. 8.
Army PEO EIS has had its share of personnel shifts this year. Soon to be acting-PEO Smith was previously the deputy PEO for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation before joining the agency
