Washington Post: At Mar-a-Lago, Trump welcomes China’s Xi for first summit
PALM BEACH, Fla. — Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived here Thursday to a red-carpet welcome to kick off his two-day summit with President Trump, as U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson promised a “very frank discussion” on North Korea, trade and cyberhacking.
Tillerson and his wife Renda St. Clair greeted Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan at the airport, and the couples strode past a ceremonial military guard before the Chinese leader entered his limousine.
Speaking to reporters a short time later, Tillerson said the Trump administration would exchange “candid views” on trade and press for China to “find ways to exercise influence on North Korea’s actions to dismantle their nuclear weapons and their missile technology program.”
