The Australian: Anzac Day 2017: Thousands turn out for dawn services

Anzac Day 2017: Thousands have gathered for Dawn Services and marches across Australia and New Zealand to commemorate Anzac Day and the Gallipoli landing.

Less than 1000 pilgrims attended the dawn service at Gallipoli making for an intimate commemoration of the birth of Australia and New Zealand’s tenacious military defence that spawned the legend of the Anzac as the sun rose over the Dardanelles.

It was the lowest turnout of Australians and New Zealanders marking their respects to the diggers since records and registration began more than a decade ago, attributed in large part to the specific terror threat levelled against the Anzac Day service and the ongoing security unrest in Istanbul, the main gateway for tourists. Officials said 857 people and 151 VIP’s attended the morning service.
